Traffic Jams

This is an on going project about traffic jams and gridlock in different countries around the world. Traffic jams are universal; they are part of daily life for millions of people around the world. I want to see what the similarities and differences are in this everyday experience.

I am taking landscape photographs on a 5x4 film camera. In a sense, the project is about the landscape of the car. It is also about photographing human activity: what are people doing and where are they going?

The world is increasingly urbanising. There are now more cars on the roads than ever before: the International Energy Agency estimates 1.7 billion cars on the road by 2035.

I have photographed traffic jams in Moscow, Jakarta and London. I will add other locations - contrasting car use in different cultures and economies around the world.
